They touched down in Perth for the five-Test tour barely two months after wrapping up a 3-0 home series win over Australia, and they will once again look to capitalise on their opponent`s fragile batting. Australia chopped and changed batsmen and their position in the order throughout the last campaign and they paid the price, with coach Darren Lehmann promising more stability this time round.
England spinner Graeme Swann said on arrival that the team was "always confident".
"If we play our good cricket, then it should be a great series. Can`t wait to get cracking," he said. But Cook denied England will be complacent after being dominant against their arch-rivals for so long, particularly with an anticipated hostile reception expected from the home fans.

England's bowling coach David Saker has admitted that Warwickshire's vacant director of cricket role has its attractions
On wearing days in India like this, with England for a long period looking as if they would spend a day in the field without taking a wicket for just the fourth time in their history, their bowling coach David Saker could be forgiven for contemplating different challenges.
Like the chance, for instance, to replace Ashley Giles as Warwickshire's director of cricket. Saker has not applied for the position, but he has confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that he would be interested in exploring the opportunity if he was approached. Warwickshire are understood to be keen to talk.
"In many ways it would be ideal for me," Saker said. "But I have an amazing job with England that I love and I would hate to leave it before the 2015 World Cup. Maybe it comes a couple of years early, but I would love to have a conversation with them."
The attraction for both parties is obvious. Saker, appointed as England bowling coach in April 2010, is highly regarded in the England set-up, has an excellent relationship with England's Warwickshire duo of Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott and is keen to broaden his coaching horizons beyond the limits of specialised bowling coaching.

Morne Morkel added to a wonderful day for South Africa by removing Kevin Pieterse
South Africa enjoyed the type of day teams dream of which ended with England staggering on 102 for 4 after being overwhelmed by the insatiable hunger of two batsmen. Hashim Amla scored the country's first triple century in Tests, building an overwhelming stand of 377 with Jacques Kallis, as South Africa amassed a lead of 252. The visitors then made major inroads into a dispirited England side who lurched to the close with a huge task ahead to leave The Oval with the series level.
England v SA, 1st Investec Test, The Oval, 4th day
England's troubles in this match may have been created by their failure to take a solid position into a big first-innings score
It was surely after watching his team suffer a day the like of which England endured on the fourth day at The Oval that inspired Edvard Munch to paint The Scream. England were humiliated. Had this been a boxing contest the referee would have stopped it; had it been horse racing the jockey would have pulled-up their mount; had it been swimming, England would have drowned. Had Graham Gooch, England's batting coach, simply muttered "The horror; the horror" when he was brought out to speak to the press at the close of play, he could not have summed up his side's position more aptly.

England v SA, 1st Investec Test, The Oval
Andrew Strauss keeps his problems behind him
In an age of hyperbole and a time of superlatives, it is gratifying to come across a sporting contest that requires neither sensationalism nor propaganda. The Test series between England and South Africa features six of the world's top 10 Test bowlers and eight of the top 17 Test batsmen. It will decide which team is ranked No 1 in the world. As Tony Blair so nearly said, now is not the time for soundbites, but the hand of history is upon our shoulders.
